I started this substack believing that I might be able to help as we were sorting through everything happening since Covid. I was at first focused on CO2 catastrophe as I believed that this is the central narrative that will be used to convince people to give up liberty out of the necessity to save the very planet. This narrative has captured and made fanatics of many.
I’ve also been interested in the idea of narratives, the history of ideas, some thoughts on epistomology and logic, etc.— a hodgepodge.
I haven’t written in some time because the question I have is, how can I help? So many brilliant people are writing; I may have little to contribute. The big task facing all of us is making the person on the street realize that so much of what they read and hear in the mainstream media is simply what the CIA called, “The Mighty Wurlitzer”: news to tell us what to think and perceive, not to make us think or truly inform us. So much really is fake news but this is hard for many to swallow, as trusting as they are in the NY Times and NPR.
One somewhat hairbrained (perhaps) interest is working to show how gravity plays a large role in the atmosphere’s thermal enhancement, in essence overshadowing radiative effects which exist within the context of the overall gravity field. Yup, sounds a bit crazy but there’s a lot of thinking out there that makes sense when we realize that the pressure exerted by the atmosphere at the surface— due to gravity— is enough to crush a railroad tanker car with a vacuum inside, and is equivalent to 2117 pounds/square foot. But this would merely be another claim dismissing CO2 which in turn would be dismissed by all those who are certain they’re “following the science” on CO2 catastrophe.
I could talk about logic and ontology and how paradigms can be internally consistent but fail to have ontological grounding: real-world validity. The theory of CO2 catastrophe is one such paradigm that’s internally consistent but that leaves out so many inconvenient (real-world) facts. We could say the same with Covid and the measures to fight it, although here we can’t even get to the point of being internally consistent. It’s as if reason has left the established medical profession.
Hence, the sleep of reason produces monsters.
I don’t know what to say anymore. We all try to make others see but this is a delicate balance as it’s hard for people to come to terms with the idea that so much of what they thought was simply lies. And, the darkness seems to be growing. I try to stay positive and overall do a good job of it. We all have to stay connected with others, be positive, do the best we can, and slowly, hopefully bring others to understand what’s happening before it’s too late and we end up in a totalitarian track-and-trace, monitor and manage system wherein the government monitors our cognitive infrastructure— our free speech— and punishes us for “misinformation.”
I’ve also been on the attack against Mattias Desmet’s idea of totalitarianism arising from the mechanistic thinking of the population because I believe that it actually arises from a conspiracy to control the thinking and perceptions of the population, primarily through censorship/propganda. Desmet very clearly dismisses any idea of “conspiracy” in his book, which makes me suspicious of who he is and what he’s doing.
If there’s anything I can do to help, please let me know.
Jim, I like what you write. Your voice is unique irrespective of subject. And some barriers just take repeated assaults with a variety of models of battering rams to be breached. Your perspective, whether on climate or covid (or something else, I am sure) resonates with some for whom not much else resonates.
We are up against massive but not insuperable forces. Every intelligent response helps. So if you are wondering if you have a cheering section...you do. It is writing like yours that keeps some of us from jumping off cliffs...truth needs as many friends as possible and knowing they are there makes fighting another day worthwhile.
Thank you sharing your thoughts and emotions. I feel & think as you do. Despair, and at times hope. Hope that there are enough clear thinking and aware individuals that humanity might be spared the future that is becoming apparent to those who are aware.
